What’s the Deal with Red Light & PEMF Therapy?

What’s the Deal with Red Light & PEMF Therapy?

Exploring a couple of hot ticket biohacking therapies…

Red light therapy, and PEMF therapy seems all the rage at the moment, and for good reason. Both therapies accelerate healing and have been used for years to help heal astronauts and elite athletes.  Only in recent years have they been available for in-home use… and they are people are taking their healing into their own hands, myself included. Here’s why:

Red Light Therapy

Near and far infrared healing therapies have gained popularity in recent years due to their potential benefits in promoting overall health and well-being. These potent therapies act as a cellular recharge, targeting pain and inflammation. Near-infrared therapy acts as a deep tissue massage, while far-infrared therapy boosts circulation, detoxifies, and strengthens the immune system. Both therapies work by using the healing properties of light to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. It’s a powerful combination.
Red light therapy works by targeting the mitochondria within the cells. The mitochondria are the part of the cell which produces energy. When your skin encounters RLT, the mitochondria absorb the light, causing them to increase energy production. It’s kind of like recharging a battery.
Many people have reported significant improvements in their health and quality of life after incorporating these therapies into their wellness routines.
To optimize these therapies, ensure that you use top-quality devices and follow safety guidelines, such as wearing protective eyewear and avoiding overexposure. These therapies are a powerful combination of cellular rejuvenation, inflammation reduction, and the ultimate boost to your well-being.
I own several red light devices for healing & detox purposes.  I have a far-infrared sauna (from Relax Sauna but Therasage is also very good – their portable pop up comes with red light panels and their wood home saunas fit 2-3 people. I have coupons for both companies here.  HigherDose also has both sauna blankets & full size home saunas as well) I use a Therasage Healing Pad rather than a regular electric heating pad for back pain & winter chills.  Because I don’t need more EMF in my life!  I will say – if you are considering an infrared sauna blanket rather than either a upright portable pop up sauna or in home sauna, please take care to use it on a recliner so that toxins run down the lymphatic system rather than settling along the spine or back into internal organs.
I have also come to love and rely on my BonCharge Mini Red Light Therapy device, which healed up some my varicose & spider veins during pregnancy and I now use it for treating my thyroid.

What is PEMF?

PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) technology works by sending low-level frequency throughout your body to recharge cells, expedite recovery, and calm the central nervous system. PEMF haas been scientifically-proven to improve chronic pain conditions, lessen inflammation, improve circulation, promote bone healing and regeneration and improve immune response. People are often worried about EMF-style radiation from X-Rays, their cellphones, microwaves, etc. But PEMF frequencies are not unlike what you’d already be experiencing in nature, which means your DNA and cells don’t get negatively-effected.
PEMF therapy can be used to treat various conditions, including bone injuries such as fractures and osteoporosis. It can also help relieve pain and inflammation associated with these injuries. Additionally, PEMF therapy has been used to treat brain injuries, autoimmune conditions such as thyroid diseases and has been shown to be helpful even in healing the gut and recovering more quickly from cancer treatments.
PEMF therapy has been shown to promote deeper, more restful sleep, which is essential for healing.  How does it do all this?  PEMF therapy speeds cellular regeneration (repair) improves circulation & oxygenation of tissues, (increasing blood flow to tissues & organs), and lowers inflammation so recovery times are quicker for a myriad of issues.  PEMF also helps balance neurotransmitter levels, which can improve mood and cognitive function, and helps to increase bone density, which is important for preventing future injuries and maintaining overall bone health.  It is a bit like an intensified grounding session and about the next best thing to Hyperbaric Chamber treatments at a much more affordable price point.
HigherDose is USA made and makes both a full length and portable Go PEMF mat. (use code MAYWELLNESS for 15% off) I am partial to the BonCharge PEMF mat though as also incorporates Far Infrared & Red Light Therapy.  You can use code MAY15 through my link for 15% off.
Most of these companies use AfterPay or Affirm, allowing you to break up the purchase over a few weeks to even a year, which is very helpful.

PEMF Therapy Studies

PEMF Therapy is good for improving cellular functions, and as we have seen from a pool of studies PEMF can have benefits for:
In the 335 research papers found, many topics were studied with the majority finding positive results; meaning that this list of the benefits of PEMF isn’t quite comprehensive but it is incredibly encouraging for those of us looking for a boost to our healing.  Especially for those of us whom grounding becomes increasingly uncomfortable as winter sets in…. and considering the lack of accessible vitamin D in the Pacific Northwest all year round.  There is even an app that lets us know what 30-45 minutes of the day we can actually absorb vitamin D here.
To be clear, positive results in research studies don’t mean PEMF therapy can cure an ailment or disease, they simply show that PEMF can help the cells of the body to function more optimally in their normal cellular functions.
This is why the list of the benefits of PEMF is actually so long, because it’s the cells of the body which are causing the benefits, and PEMF that is helping them to optimize their functions.
