Of late this smoothie has been my go-to to get through the afternoon slump.  It’s how I break my fast for lunch, and carries me through my post homeschool run so I can tackle a bit of work with a fully functional brain.   I love it… obviously you can take out the supplemental boosters, but they are my superfoods that hit all my energy needs and help me thrive with Hashimoto’s rather than just survive.

This smoothie is made with bone broth protein (20% off in Fullscript) and is boosted with Gelatinized Red Maca from The Maca Team for women’s energy & libido and that malted milk ball flavor you couldn’t quite put your finger on.  I’ve tried about a dozen maca brands and this is the best, especially if you want less starch & sugar and more potent nutriton.  It also has black tahini for seed cycling (you can alternate with sprouted pumpkin seeds for the follicular phase) healthy fats and probiotics. Bone broth protein is incredibly gut healing but if you are vegan you can sub with a clean plant protein like Ancient Nutrition’s or pea protein.  Let me know what you think!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup ice
  • 3/4 cup filtered water
  • 1/4 cup Swiss water decaf cold brew
  • 1/4 cup avocado
  • 1 Scoop Chocolate Bone Broth Protein or Ancient Nutrition Plant Protein*
  • 1 Tbsp Maca Team Gelatinized Red Maca
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1-2 tbsp coconut kefir yogurt (optional, for a probiotic boost)
  • 1 Tbsp black tahini
  • 1 scoop EcoNugenics PectaSol-C optional - for immunity & detoxification support

Instructions
 

  • Blend in a high powered blender until smooth and serve!

Chai Black Tahini Smoothie

This smoothie is dessert for all intents and purposes but is still healthy.  With no sugar it is great for a keto diet and for breaking a fast.  It has chai medicinal mushrooms, healthy fats, probiotics and bone broth protein to heal the gut. It is a great option for seed cycling in the luteal phase as it has sesame (black tahini) for progesterone support. I love black tahini as it has a unique flavor all it’s own.  I also use it to make these cookies.

I use Ancient Nutrition Vanilla Bone Broth Protein, which is available in my Fullscript Practitioner Dispensary.*  I use dōTERRA cardamom essential oil from the culinary collection and cinnamon cassia is a nice addition as well. The black tahini I get from Kevala Organics.  Enjoy!

  • 1/2-1 tbsp Swiss Water Organic decaf espresso

  • 1 drop dōTERRA cardamom optional

This smoothie is dark and brooding with chocolate and black tahini and it is full of medicinal mushrooms, fermented fruits (think all the antioxidant benefits but keto) and sesame and sunflower for seed cycling in the luteal phase. I have boosted it with a powerful immune modulator, modified citrus pectin, as the clinical studies on it are spectacular and help with a myriad of issues from autoimmunity to arthritis. I like to use Ancient Nutrition Vanilla Bone Broth Protein or keto collagen in a pinch… but I find the texture is best with the bone broth version.  You can pick up Dr. Axe’s Ancient Nutrition products in Fullscript Supplement Dispensary.  This is my autoimmune friendly go to… so if you struggle with inflammation from legumes and veggies… this is the safe pick. I love making up an afternoon smoothie as it’s light, has the calories and nutrition I need and I can still de-stress with a run or workout after homeschooling without an overly full belly.  You can also get the MCT oil on Fullscript, and many things are cheaper there than amazon, ship free over $49 and you have the added bonus of supporting a homeschooling mom.

This smoothie can easily be dressed up with dōTERRA’s ingestible oils, which are marked with a nutritional label.  They undergo stringent lab testing that unfortunately many essential oils do not… so be careful… don’t put adulterated or chemically altered oils in your body unknowingly!  This is really common in oils bought on third party sellers like Amazon Marketplace and eBay.  It’s very easy to remove the lid, dilute or alter the oils and then put a fresh lid with a seal on.  This smoothie is lovely with a bit of cinnamon or cardamom EO.  You can get smoothie friendly culinary oils here

  • 1 scoop PectaSol-C* optional

Instructions
 

  • Add all ingredients in a high powered blender and blend until smooth!
